Abstract:

Introduction: In order to understand the cellular and tissue damages or changes in various diseases, it is imperative to be knowledgeable about the normal structure of different tissues. The Histology course, which is taught in the first year of medicine in Iran, is supposed to provide such knowledge. In this study, we did evaluate this course for its methods of teaching as well as clinical relevance. Methods: A self-style questionnaire, containing 14 statements in Likert scale, covering different aspects of course evaluation was distributed among medical students, entry 1375, and was collected after completion. Results: The response rate was 53% (80 out of 150). The respondents did not respond to all questions. The students believed that the number of Histology credits was more than they expected for medical students (56%). They felt that the method of histology teaching was motivational for clinical learning (50%). However, it also resulted in memorizing (77%), but not critical thinking (53%) or problem solving (65%) abilities. The respondents also believed that deleting histology from general medical curriculum did not benefit clinical learning (82%), as they felt that the theoretical (82%) as well as lab sessions of the course (82%) were necessary for learning clinical subjects. However, they believed that course material constituted detailed materials with no clinical relevance (62%), without which it was also possible to understand clinical concepts (60%). The students also believed that the course content was more beneficial for training histologists rather than medical students (55%), and suggested to arrange short periods of clinical training for the course instructors (86%). Conclusion; The results show that although medical students, entry 1375 felt that Histology course was required for clinical learning, they believed that it was not clinically relevant, and its method of teaching did not promote their mental intellectual activities.

Abstract:

Dear Editor,I am writing to you today to express my excitement and insights from the recently concluded 24th National Congress and the 10th International Student Congress. The event was held in Milad Tower in Tehran from October 4-6, 2023 (1). The Ministry of Health arranges this event in different cities annually (2, 3), which was hosted by Baqiyatallah University of Medical Sciences in 2023. It proved to be a resounding success, attracting a diverse group of scientists, researchers, and experts in medical science from around the world. The congress was attended by 1,200 researchers from across the country. There was a total of 74 panels, consisting of 26 lecture panels and 48 poster panels. Additionally, 600 articles were submitted, covering various topics in medical science such as clinical and basic sciences, artificial intelligence, and pharmaceutical innovation. Following a thorough evaluation, a total of 281 articles were carefully chosen from the submissions as potential candidates for publication in the Trauma Monthly Journal (see attached file). The organizers, Baqiyatallah University of Medical Sciences and the Trauma Monthly Journal, should be highly praised for their collaborative efforts in establishing a dynamic platform that promotes effective communication and collaboration among medical experts. The scientific committee's dedication to using the congress's outcomes, especially the selected trauma-related articles for publication, demonstrates their strong commitment to advancing the field.I believe that the 24th National Congress and the 10th International Student Congress have significantly contributed to advancing medical science, especially in the field of trauma. The publication of the selected articles in Trauma Monthly Journal will undoubtedly serve as a valuable resource for researchers, clinicians, and students.Sincerely,[Mohammad Rezapour]Scientific secretary of the 24th annual congress of medical students.

Abstract:

Introduction: Investigations into continuing education programs are necessary to identify the needs and priorities, motivate the participants, and improve their benefits. This study was performed to assess dentists’ viewpoints about the aims, the content, and the relevant factors in the prosthodontics congress. Materials & Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 270 dentists participating in the 16th Iranian Dental Association Congress (2016). The questionnaire consisted of demographic data and 12 statements, with six statements supporting participation in the Congress and six against it. Likert scale was used to score the questionnaire, and its validity was evaluated with t-test. The participants’ attitudes were determined, and the relevant factors were assessed with regression analysis. Results: 4% of the dentists had a highly positive attitude towards participating in the congress, 73% had a negative attitude, 22. 6% had a negative attitude, and 0. 4% had a highly negative attitude. The most important reason for a positive attitude was discussions and debates in the Congress (93%), followed by making more money (71%), and the least motivation (6. 6%) was familiarity with new methods and tools. Conclusion: Although the participants’ positive attitudes were at a favorable level, their motivation was not favorable, causing some concern. Most dentists participated in continuing education programs with non-scientific motives. Measures are recommended for improving motivations for participating in congresses.
